Guide to job planning in clinical oncology, Second edition

Ref No: BFCO(12)2

Following publication in July 2011 of joint guidance from the British Medical Association and NHS Employers on consultant job planning, The Royal College of Radiologists issued its new guidance on job planning specific to consultant clinical oncologists: Guide to job planning in clinical oncology.

Since the document was published, the RCR has become aware of two specific areas of concern which needed to be reflected within this document. The first is around part-time working and the maintenance of clinical skills and the second is around the time needed for radiotherapy planning. This second edition of the Guide to job planning in clinical oncology has been updated to reflect these changes.

Job planning is an area which causes a lot of anxiety and concern – both for those whose job plan is being reviewed and those doing the reviewing. The Faculty of Clinical Oncology hope that this document gives guidance to both parties, in terms of understanding the work and workload issues, and that these can be considered in the stetting of an individual’s clinical practice.

We are aware that job planning issue continues to evolve and we will attempt to keep this document current by reviewing it regularly. Please contact the Clinical Oncology Executive Officer with any feedback.
